Garnett Breaks Out The Heavy Artillery

"It's for all the marbles. I'm sitting in the house loading up the pump, I'm loading up the Uzis, I've got a couple of M-16s, couple of nines, couple of joints with some silencers on them, couple of grenades, got a missile launcher. I'm ready for war."

Kevin Garnett is taking major heat for his above remarks on the eve of the Western Conference Semi- Final Game 7 between the Timberwolves & Kings. We're hearing throughout the day that KG's comments are insensitive to those risking their lives on the frontlines in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that war and a mere game of basketball shouldn't be equated.

So much for the use of metaphor. If events overseas take such precedence over all other considerations, why are the pundits of sports yack radio even paying attention to the pre-game braggadocio of Kevin Garnett? If there are indeed, bigger issues at stake in the world, why give this series --- or any other sporting endeavor --- the time of day?

(I'd say "look out below" but I don't wanna add additional pain to victims of a real bombing)

To my mind, Garnett's comments are harmless hyperbole. The commentators expelling hot air with their KG hatred are no more sensitive to the plight of those in battle than anyone else, but they are happy to take a stand against Garnett if it makes them sound more patriotic.
