Marv To Chomp On Nets-casts?The NY Post's Andrew Marchand reported on
Wednesday that Marv Albert's absence from local radio might be short
lived .
Long-time Knicks play-by-play man Marv Albert may do at least some Nets games on the YES Network this upcoming season. While veteran Nets' play-by-player Ian Eagle still has a year remaining on his contract and is expected to continue in that capacity, Albert may also wind up working on some broadcasts. Asked directly last night if he still could be in line to broadcast Nets games, Albert said he couldn't comment specifically. "I'm good with whatever happens," Albert said. With Eagle's commitments to CBS for NFL and college hoops broadcasts, Albert could pick up about 10 games as a fill-in. Albert could also cherry pick games, which would allow him to pick up more broadcasts. ![]() There have been no indications that Albert will replace Eagle, but nothing can be ruled out. It appears that quiet negotiations have been going on between Albert's representatives and members of ownership. A spokesman for Bruce Ratner, the Nets' new owner, declined comment. Though I'm tempted to make a rude comment about Ratner shipping Kenyon Martin (and possibly Jason Kidd) out of town but having the gumption to recruit a Hall Of Fame broadcaster, there's nothing to complain about here (other than the team sucking up a storm). If Ian Eagle never works another Nets game and Marv does indeed, become the voice of the team, to quote Diamond Dallas Page, that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing.
