Weiland - A Man Of Few Words

I've been checking the Velvet Revolver website every few days, eager to find some news about their hotly anticipated debut album...and also hoping to get some accurate information about this superstar band without increasing the hit counts of anti-Weiland sites like CNN.com, Buddyhead , etc.

Scott W. , recognizing that the net is a useful vehicle for reaching his adoring public, posted the following message, dated 26 December :

First of all let me say that Rolling Stone magazine's gossip columns exist only so rich college boys can wipe their fucking asses with the rag. As for the lad that interviewed me and then printed that I was drunk driving... get your facts straight you moron paparazzi fuck.

OK, as you should know by now, I'll defend Scott's music, lyrics and fashion sense with my last dying breath. Avatars like Weiland come along so rarely in our lifetime. Dylan, Coltrane, Miles, Elizabeth Wurzel...that's the kind of pantheon I'm talking about. But he's lost me with this one. How can RS' gossip column solely exist for rich college boys to wipe their asses with the magazine? Surely the magazine's readership attracts a wider demographic. I mean, if you're a rich college boy, wouldn't you prefer a more reliable product?

Though I share Scott's frustration with Rolling Stone's shoddy reportage, I am compelled to take exception to his characterization of the publication's interviewer as a "moron paparazzi fuck". Webster's defines "paparrazi" as "a free-lance photographer who aggressively pursues celebrities for the purpose of taking candid photographs." Presuming the RS reporter was not on the scene taking pictures of Weiland emerging drunk (allegedly) from behind the wheel after a traffic accident, this is a glaring error on the vocalist's part. I would suggest that Scott amend his comment to simply read "get your facts straight, you moron fuck."
