They Have The Internet On Computers Now

Today's Guardian reported the sobering statistic that child pornography crimes have increased by 1500% since 1988. The children's charity NCH attributes the rise in these evil acts to the increased use of the internet. At first glance, this seems to make sense, as most child pornography prior to 1988 was confined to universities and the U.S. Military.

However, at CSTB we're all about breaking down the numbers. Could it be that NCH have failed to take into account the following :

a) children have become much better looking since 1988.
b) the increased use of the internet has made it 1500% easier to catch child sex criminals (particularly those on the internet.)
c) the rampant rise of the child pornography market fueled the growth of the entire tech sector ; no kiddie porn = no online Guardian. Which means fewer opportunities to alert the public to the proliferation of online child pornography.
