Coke Fiend Kiddie Killer Remains On Ice......while his former paramour gives lectures.
Pariah of the late '80's Joel Steinberg was denied parole today for the fifth time. From today's Newsday : A parole board decision said Steinberg failed to understand his actions when he delayed calling for medical help after beating 6-year-old Lisa. "We find quite compelling your inexplicable disregard for your victim, that little girl, that evening," the decision by the three-member panel said. The panel interviewed Steinberg on Wednesday. Steinberg, 62, is serving 8 1/3 to 25 years at the Southport Correctional Facility for first-degree manslaughter. He is tentatively scheduled to be released June 30 after completing two-thirds of his maximum sentence. The case put a national spotlight on domestic violence and the question of who should report cases of suspected child abuse. In 1987, Steinberg was accused of fatally beating Lisa, whom he had taken as a days-old infant from an unwed teenager. He was supposed to arrange an adoption, but instead took the baby home to his live-in companion, Hedda Nussbaum. Meanwhile, we've learned that '80's pinup Hedda managed to land on her feet. ![]() Hedda Nussbaum, a nationally renowned lecturer on domestic violence, will be speaking at St. Ambrose University on Monday, October 14, at 7 p.m., in the Beehive located in Ambrose Hall. “October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and we feel that Hedda Nussbaum embodies the surviving spirit of a domestic violence victim,” says Melissa Homco, Campus Activities Board/Student Government Association Liaison. “Her story is vital to understanding domestic violence and its consequences.” Representatives from Family Resources will also be present at the annual autumn lecture and have pamphlets on domestic violence. The event is free and open to the public. For years, Nussbaum was the victim of domestic abuse from her live-in boyfriend. In 1987, he beat their adopted 6-year-old daughter to death. Since then, Nussbaum has been an outspoken opponent of domestic violence -- a stance that has landed her on the cover of “Newsweek” and on various television programs such as The View with Barbara Walters. Quite a resume. Courageous though she may be, it is easier to make the cover of Newsweek when you're an opponent of domestic violence, as opposed to someone who is a proponent. ![]() (Jim Brown, not on the cover of Newsweek) Posted: Thu - January 15, 2004 at 04:54 PM |
