Giants' Kicker Christie Keeps His PlaceMissing 5 of 10 field goals is usually enough to
justify a personnel change, but that old softie Tom Coughlin begs to differ.
From the Associated Press :
Despite missing all three field goal attempts last week, veteran Steve Christie apparently is going to remain the Giants place-kicker this week against Dallas. Giants coach Tom Coughlin told Christie to put his problems behind him and focus on this week. "I don't think there is a guy in this league, a veteran kicker, who has not been in this situation," Coughlin said. ![]() (most of the photographs we found of Steve Christie were either very unattractive or showed him in a Bills uniform. So this snapshot of Julie Christie will have to suffice.) A 15-year veteran, Christie is just 5-for-10 this year with three of his misses from 47 yards or more. However, he also missed fourth-quarter kicks from 30 and 33 yards that could have iced last week's 14-7 win over Green Bay. He said he simply missed one of those kicks and didn't play the wind right on the second. "I have been through this before with different situations, different teams and different coaches," Christie said Wednesday. "I just have to work through it. What they decide to do is up to them. My responsibility is to sort out what is going on and correct what needs to be corrected." Posted: Wed - October 6, 2004 at 04:37 PM |
