Wally Backs Out



The Associated Press is reporting that former Mets 2B Wally Backman has removed himself from consideration in his former club's manager search, preferring to focus on the Arizona job that he's said to be a finalist for.




Backman, who has not managed above Double A, seemed like a curious choice for the Mets, who are faced with having to choose between a big league managerial debutante (Willie Randolph, Rudy Jamarillo) or any number of retreads (Terry Collins, Jim Riggleman, Bobby V.)
