Matsui Homers In First ABIf I had the Elias Sports Bureau on speed dial,
I'd ask them for the names of other players who've hit home runs in their first Major
League plate appearances. Sadly, I only have Pizza Hut of Uxbridge
Road on my speed dial, and they closed hours ago. After seeing two extra base
hits for Kazuo Matsui in his inaugural at bats, I can only conclude that he was
bluffing throughout spring training. Either that, or Russ Ortiz has yet to
thrown him a breaking pitch.
I don't know if Tom Glavine was rolling his eyes at Mike Cameron's failure to rob Marcus Giles of his 2-run first inning homer, but we have to give the ex-Braves pitcher lots of credit for not ducking this assignment ala Pete Harnisch and developing a bi-polar disorder moments before game time. If I had the Elias Sports Bureau on speed dial, I'd ask them to name one Braves player who doesn't look forward to facing Glavine. Posted: Tue - April 6, 2004 at 06:59 PM |
