Reyes Uses Head, Mets SplitMixed results for the Mets yesterday in split
squad action. In Port St. Lucie, NY
lost to St. Louis, 5-4, with Steve Traschel giving up 5 hits and 2
runs in 4 innings. Grant Roberts had another good outing, striking out four in
as many innings (12 K's in 9 innings for Roberts this spring, having allowed
just one run on six hits). Jose Reyes went 3-5 with an RBI, a run scored and
some sparkling play at 2nd. He also went from first to third on a Cliff Floyd
groundout and nearly injured himself on a headfirst slide. Bad enough that Mets
baserunners routinely risk their necks with dives that don't get them from
station to station any faster, but to do so in an exhibition game is lunacy. If
only Robbie Alomar were still around...to show Reyes how to jog down to first
before accelerating for a headfirst slide into 2nd.
In Vero Beach, the Mets beat the Orioles, 7-1. Tyler Yates threw 3 scoress innings, Jason Phillips hit a 3 run homer and Karim Garcia managed two hits without urinating or assaulting anyone. Posted: Sun - March 14, 2004 at 10:43 AM |
