Though Braden Looper and Sausage-Slugger Simon would appear to be the pick of the crop, there are a few others whom I'd hope the Mets would be taking a look at, including Mark Redman (5th starter) and the previously cited Jay Payton. Was dumping Pedro Feliciano such a smart move compared to giving 43 year old John Franco a million dollars for 2004? Likewise, I'm not sure about the Marlin's jettison of Looper compared to yesterday's signing of firestarter Armando Benitez.

Freddy Garcia (RHP) signed a one-year, $6.875 million contract with Seattle. Garcia, 27, has been Seattle's opening day starter their past 3 seasons, and was widely rumored to be one of the players non-tendered by the club.
