World Series Game One : Arena Baseball On The Big StageBoston 11, St. Louis 9.
Despite not being able hold leads of 4-0, 7-2 and 9-7, Boston outlasted St. Louis in a sloppy Game One (4 Red Sox errors including a couple of howlers by Manny Ramirez in the 8th). Neither starter lasted long, Woody Williams going deep into the count and tallying a pitch count somewhere near a thousand by the 3rd inning, Tim Wakefield's night completely falling apart in the 4th. ![]() You're not gonna see a more valuable blown save than Keith Foulke's 5 out stint. After intentionally walking Albert Pujols to load the bases in the 8th, Foulke induced Scott Rolen to pop out and then caught Jim Edmonds looking. Of all Theo Epstein's winter and mid-season acquisitions to receive acclaim, none (Curt Schilling included) have had as impressive an October as the Boston closer.
