Quote Of The DayFrom Oakland A's owner Steve Schott :
"When you see a decent crowd and long lines for concessions and traffic backed up, it's an issue, especially with all the new parks opening up," Schott said amid the gridlock, an hour before the game. "We can't remain competitive in terms of being able to sign players. I said it before. I'll say it now. We need a new park." What Schott really wants is more luxury boxes and a stadium that isn't purpose-built (ok, remodeled) for Al Davis. Decent crowds, long lines for concessions and traffic backed up are all things one might associate with a visit to Yankee Stadium. Over in Queens, crowds are sparse, only the suicidal get in line for concessions, and the traffic is backed up...in January. Which would make it pretty tough enough to sign, say, Eric Chavez in 2005, if he hadn't already signed an extension with Oakland. Posted: Tue - April 6, 2004 at 07:27 PM |
