GM PISSING MATCHthou shalt not covet thy neighbor's job (unless
thou is about to be offered it)
Ross Newman and Jason Reid of the LA TImes reported yesterday that Los Angeles GM Dan Evans
confronted his Oakland counterpart Billy Beane over rumors that the latter had
been lobbying for the Dodgers job .
Beane, who may or may not be offered the position when and if Frank McCourt's takeover from News Corp. is complete, denies that he's campaigned for Evans' spot. Evans, clearly unsettled by speculation that his days are numbered, is in an unenviable position of having limited time to prepare for 2004, not knowing if he'll be around for any of it. Though some of Dan's moves haven't panned out (ie. bringing back Todd Hundley), he can't be blamed for Darren Dreifort's crazy contract, or the zillions still owed to the aging Kevin Brown.
