Nixon's The OneOr, Kim and The Universal Language Of Go Fuck
Yourself
Embattled Red Sox reliever Byun-Hyun Kim gave it back to the Fenway Faithful last night
during the pregame introductions to Game 3 of the ALDS. I missed this
particular exchange while hunting for my seat (and presumably ESPN's broadcast
did as well).
Other than, that, it was an absolute classic and one of those rare occasions when I wished I had a rule book handy. Two obstruction calls in one game (3 in 3 games!)...and some amazing pitching on both sides. Sans Kim, the Sox bullpen came up huge (Timlin especially) --- and that's without using Pedro (whom while seen warming up in the 8th, was probably just getting some tosses in). I had a long discussion with my dad on the Green Line last night about the amount of vulgarity in today's culture, and with that firmly in mind, the only way I can describe the reaction to Trot Nixon's walk-off homer in the 11th (one of 7 such HR's to stave off elimination in post-season history) is total fucking bedlam.
What can be concluded, however, about the miserable performances in this series so far from Manny Ramierz, Miguel Tejada and David Ortiz, all 3 of whom look completely lost at the plate (Manny in particular, whom Ted Lilly played like a fiddle)? You've got to figure one of these guys will break out in a big way before this is over (though we might assume the same thing about the entire Red Sox batting order). Some post-season, huh? 3 hours before it all starts up again. Posted: Sun - October 5, 2003 at 04:00 AM |
