World Series Game One : Hitting Manny In The Bad Part Of The Glove

(David Ortiz, greeted after hitting a 3 run HR off Woody Williams in the first)

Boston 11, St. Louis 9 (8th Inning)

It was just a matter of time until one of the following happened this post-season ;

a) Keith Foulke blew a save
b) Manny Ramirez would misplay a ball in left field.

Tonight, "b" happened twice in the top of the 8th and helped ensure scenario "a".

Things are far from resolved, but this hasn't been a great advertisement for great long relief (though as everyone kept saying during the ALCS, if you had an exceptional pitcher, why would he be throwing long relief?). Larry Walker's been making things look easy, and hey, how about Mr. October, Mark Bellhorn? If Terry Francona listened to hate radio of the sports variety, Pokey Reese would've gotten a start several days ago...and you'd be watching Game One, live from the Bronx, right about now.

Missed Steven Tyler singing/honking the National Anthem whilst engrossed in the Texas/Texas Tech game (Vince Young morphing into Michael Vick for one night). I didn't hear that recent Aerosmith covers album, but I thought the material was supposed to be a little more contemporary.

(yes, you've already seen this pose this week)

UPDATE : Keith Foulke struck out Roger Cedeno (!) representing the tying run in the 9th to get the win, Bellhorn's 2 run shot off the right-field foul pole in the 8th (above) breaking the deadlock. Not a good time to place a prank call to Julian Tavarez' hotel room asking for Joaquin Andujar.)
