Sunday Rewind

You Wouldn't Want To Be Mrs. Bobby Cox This Morning

This was supposed to be the year the Braves had an offense that could match the lofty standards set by their brilliant pitching staff. And they did, really. But that doesn't take into account facing Mark Prior and Kerry Wood , both of whom were untouchable in their 3 combined starts.

Atlanta fans (seemingly outnumbered at Turner Field by the opposition) can now head into an off-season of uncertainty, possibly facing the loss of Greg Maddux and Javier Lopez. So, pencil the Braves in for another division title in 2004 then.

I watched the end of yesterday's A's/Red Sox ALDS Game 6 in some dopey Harvard Sq. wine bar after things went horribly wrong at Charlie's Kitchen (take it from me, if you're gonna yell to management that they need to turn off the closed captioning, make sure you're not surrounded by a big party of deaf people). Hard to say for sure what Tim Hudson's early exit means other than a wasted start (and Barry Zito going on 3 days rest tonight) but the SF Chronicle claims to have info about an alleged bar fight Friday evening .

Regarding Manny and David Ortiz, a brilliant man wrote yesterday "one of these guys will break out in a big way before this is over." And though two hits between them isn't necessarily breaking out in a big way, it was big enough at the right time.

The UMass Daily Collegian, a paper whose big claim to fame is having fired yours truly some 19 years ago, ran a story about campus rioting in the aftermath of the Red Sox' Game 3 victory. Amherst is about 2 1/2 hours away from Fenway Park. Even stranger, what's with the guy from Somerville (who isn't even a UMass student) getting arrested? There aren't any cars in Somerville to flip over?
