Garcia, Spencer In Early-Bird Special FracasFew details are forthcoming (I'm looking!) but it
seems Karim Garcia, unsatisfied with pummeling groundskeepers, has turned his
attention to the diners of
Florida.
From the Associated Press : New York Mets outfielders Karim Garcia and Shane Spencer were involved in a dispute with two local residents outside a restaurant near the team's spring training complex. It was unclear exactly what happened, but general manager Jim Duquette said the club was aware of the confrontation, which took place Thursday night. Police were not called to the scene and no charges were filed, he said. "We don't think that it's anything we'd be concerned about and certainly we'll be handling it internally," Duquette said Friday. "I can't get into the specifics because I don't know an awful lot about it." Duquette said he didn't anticipate charges being filed against any of the people involved. "If there is any disciplinary action, it will be handled internally," he said. Spencer said he hoped the dispute wouldn't affect his status with the team. He and Garcia are among at least four Mets competing for playing time in right field. "I'm not supposed to say anything, but it got blown out [of proportion]," Spencer said. "It's just unfortunate." ![]() (is this the man who tangled with Killer Karim?) (UPDATE : Peter Abraham of The Journal News writes that said incident occurred between Garcia, Spencer and an unidentified man outside a local sports bar. Which kind of kills the whole senior citizen/eatery vibe I was going for. Thanks, Peter) Speaking of unfortunate, that's a pretty ugly line for the Cardinals' Matt Morris after last night's grapefruit league loss to the Mets, 10-6. 1 and 2/3 innnings pitched, 9 hits, 9 runs, all of 'em earned. It's early, of course, but not too early to say that Roger Cedeno going 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored...means absolutely nothing. 3B prospect David Wright didn't play in this game, so I can't pull a Mike Francesca and pretend I don't know who he is.
