Looper, New York Closer

The inexplicable connection between the New York Mets and Belle & Sebastian was reinforced again today as the former announced the signing of free-agent relief pitcher Braden Looper to a 2 year, $6.75 million contact pending a physical.

Looper converted 28 saves in 34 opportunities last year for the Marlins, though he had a rough 2nd half and surrendered the closer role to Ugueth Urbina. That said, this is a decent acquisition for a Mets team badly in need of bullpen help, though it should put the final nail in the coffin for any hopes of swapping Roger Cedeno for Billy Koch.
