Battle Of Nitwits ContinuesDays after taking umbrage at being compared to
Don Rickles, George Steinbrenner has likened Boston's John Henry to the late
Ray Bolger.
From yesterday's New York Post and George King : When George Steinbrenner thinks of Red Sox owner John Henry he sees an object that is best used to frighten birds away from the crops. Steinbrenner and the Yankees aren't going to waste their time filing a grievance over Henry comparing The Boss to comedian Don Rickles. However, that doesn't mean Steinbrenner is ready to embrace the Boston owner. The Post has learned that The Boss was overheard talking in unflattering terms about Henry. "I consider it a great compliment because Rickles is somebody I really like," Steinbrenner reportedly said. "[Rickles] is funny and a warm and caring person. As far as Henry is concerned, he reminds me of Ray Bolger, the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz." Steinbrenner likening Henry to a scarecrow is a direct hit on Henry's slight physique and further proof that the heated Red Sox-Yankees rivalry has never been hotter. It could be worse. He could've said that Henry looks like Jason Giambi. Posted: Tue - February 24, 2004 at 06:40 PM |
