Worldwide Leader Treats Major Event Like A Sideshow

Though we're less than 90 minues away from ESPN's coverage of the 2004 Nathan's Famous Fourth Of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island, there's nothing on ESPN.com's front page about the competition.

Wimbledon tennis, the Tour De France, even Euro 2004 is worthy of inclusion. But not a contest that has captivated a worldwide audience for 78 years. Every time it seems competitive eaters have broken through to the mainstream, a snub like this makes me wonder about the old-school mentality in Bristol, CT.
