Don't Hate "Playmakers", Hate The GameESPN, under heavy pressure from their partner and
cash-cow, the NFL, has announced that "Playmakers", the ultra-sensational
soapumentary about footballers on 'roids, rape and you name it, will not return
for a 2nd season.
Despite respectable ratings and a smattering of decent press from persons not named Mushnick, the series raised the ire of Paul Tagliabue and the NFL. Because after all, things like drug abuse, spousal abuse, showboating, etc. never existed in the NFL until they were depicted in a fictional TV show. Former "First & 10" star, OJ Simpson, was unavailable for comment. Dan Patrick, on his afternoon radio show, indignantly pointed out that he never uttered a word of objection when ABC was airing "Sportsnight". Posted: Wed - February 4, 2004 at 02:40 PM |
