You don’t have to be a veteran broadcaster
to use Yu Darvish’s brush with immortality as an excuse to express the first dopey thought that popped into your head….but it helps.   Alan Ashby’s apology, courtesy MLB.com :

Astros broadcaster Alan Ashby issued an apology Wednesday for what he had intended to be a lighthearted remark in the excitement of Tuesday night’s near-perfect game by Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish in Houston.

“I’d like to apologize if my comments last night were misinterpreted or construed as insensitive. I have the highest respect for Yu Darvish; he’s a great player and his performance last night was outstanding. He showed a great deal of poise in the face of a difficult moment last night, which speaks to the strength of his character.”

Lest anyone believe this is a big deal over not-very-much, you’ll note that MLB Advanced Media has edited their clip of the CSN Houston feed so that it ends before the offending remarks are heard.
