Lamest duck of all time? Biggest laughing stock since Ray Handley? Either way, the firing of Washington head coach Jim Zorn early today will disappoint no one, except for perhaps John Riggins, who might never find such an easy target over the rest of his commentary career. Zorn was reportedly given his walking papers at 4:30 am, a move that suggests Dan Snyder hoped to introduce Mike Shanahan has his new coach as soon as possible.

There’s been little talk of Col. Coughlin being run out of the Swamp after the Giants dropped 8 of their final 11 games, but defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan took the hit for Big Blue allowing 40 or more points 5 times this season, including Sunday’s embarrassing 44-7 capitulation to the Vikings.
