The Zone’s Henson – Still Remembered In A Major Market

Posted in Sports Radio at 7:39 pm by

To call KVET’s Gregg Henson (above) an aggressively untalented radio host would be a tad diplomatic. In fact, his sub-Morning Zoo yackfests, as previously heard on KZNX, are enough to make Ben Maller sound like David Brinkley by comparison.

Henson’s bounced around from one radio gig to another, inexplicably turning up as program director at Clear Channel’s Austin sports station shortly after stinking up the evening drive slot on their crosstown competitor. It’s fair to say his former listeners in Philadelphia — the few who recall his name, anyway, aren’t wishing him well in future endeavors. Of Henson’s tenure at Philadelphia’s WPEN, 700 Level’s Matt P writes, “his annoying laugh, his above-the-world pomposity, his berating of anyone who disagreed with his unfounded and subjective points, and his overall lack of actual sports knowledge, both in Philly and on the national level, made 950 a non-option during the morning drive.”

Apparently Henson didn’t last long back in Detroit, and he’s now returned to Texas to work the drive home on the Longhorns’ flagship station, 1300 AM. And as you might imagine, the Longhorn fans are already trying to hook him. Henson himself thinks the show is taking off, but oddly, he “can’t believe there are that many people out there who want to talk sports.” Um, then why base your entire career on that “phenomenon”?

Because there are only so many opportunities to carry Boomer Esiason’s briefcase?

how far into the horns season does this douche make it, g? 2 weeks? people here, myself included, can’t stand not hearing about the latest tweaked ball bag injury to the third string corner for 2 hours…as serious discussion of course.

the dude’s basically a colin cowherd who doesn’t have free espn insider access.

it isn’t so much that brutally unfunny talk radio is incongruous — even on that station. It’s just that Henson’s timing is appreciably worse than that of your average Stern / Opie & Anthony fan. It’s astonishing to think a guy could be out of his depth in a wading pool, but there you go.

This guys is worthless. He sucked on 1530, now he sucks on 1300, which is helping to give 1530 a chance to gain ground on the Longhorn Station, because Chip Brown is carrying that show. Jeff Ward at 590 has to be loving it though. I don’t know what the ratings are, but popular opinion of everyone I talk to is that Henson is terrible, and everyone has turned the dial.

The dude is sure ugly looking too!!!

    Here’s my comment about Gregg:

    Henson is still alive?

You people are losers and this blog is the lamest piece of crap I’ve ever read, you people need to get a life.

You guys got your wish. See ya, Gregg!

    #7: Hi Gregg –

I see that you’re still both bitter and OCD. Please get off of the pedestal that you’ve built for yourself and come to the reality that there is a reason that you can’t hold down a job: you spend all of your time being bitter and posting it in your crappy blog instead of trying to make good radio. Get over yourself. Your tiny legion of mullet-wearing knuckle draggers won’t be around forever to post on your behalf. Let it go already! You had your chance and blew it.

P.S. Stop kissing Tom Bigby’s ass; He’s never going to give you a job in Detroit, especially after your lawsuit. Don’t you think that you’ve burned one too many bridges?
